Britpop Autumn: Here are the Effortless 90s Styles Making a Comeback Alongside Oasis

Leopard jeans up 2899% and other top trends this week

It’s the era of reunions, and with Oasis announcing theirs last month, everyone is stepping back in time with a massive spike in Google searches for the band. This, paired with the current uptick in Pinterest searches for “fall outfits aesthetic” by 100%, means we’re about to see a unique crossover that’s going to make the A/W24 season.

Prepare for Britpop autumn.

You can put the bucket hat and raincoat back in the wardrobe. Instead, think the ultra-casual vibe of Oasis with a dash of Spice Girls. As an example, we’re seeing a surge in searches for leopard print jeans, by 2899% to be exact. Plus, leopard print trousers are up 812%, so if you’ve been waiting for the return of Mel B’s style, now is your time.

Leopard Print Trousers and Jeans

There are tonnes of options for your leopard print revival, but if you want to really embrace the 90s, Urban Outfitters’s Damson Madder Leopard Print Cargo Jeans are £70, and have that slouched feel to give you the effortless look you’re after.

Snow leopard print will take you from autumn straight through the winter, and with the right top, could be office-appropriate. If you want something more neutral without losing the striking nature of this print, River Island’s Brown Leopard Print Relaxed Straight Jeans are just £48.

Culottes can give a casual look that extra bit of interesting detail, and show off your boots as you move into the colder season (or, if wearing them on an evening out, your kitten heels, which we’ll get to later…). These New Look Tall Brown Animal Print Wide Leg Crop Trousers are only £18, and are a clear winner if you want to do this print without spending a lot.

Wide Leg Joggers

If you could never decide whether you were a Mel B or a Mel C, this season it’s acceptable to be both. Switch out your midweek leopard print trousers for your wide leg joggers while running errands at the weekend. They’re up in searches by 529% right now, and nothing is more Mel C than these New Look Red Stripe Wide Leg Tailored Joggers for £32.99.

Want a more neutral colour? River Island’s Khaki Wide Leg Joggers were originally £30, but are now just £10. These are a Britpop casual staple as they’ll go with just about every look you put together.

Cream Jackets

The cream jacket is booming this season as people look for a chic coat to give their casual 90s outfits an instant lift. Keep the lighter summer colours going while seamlessly transitioning to autumn.

The cream duffle coat had a moment in the 90s, and that moment is back. This New Look Blue Vanilla Cream Tailored Longline Coat is £65, and answers the call.

Simply Be’s Ecru Vintage Look Feather Oversize Jacket is £69. Searches for cream jackets are up by 172%, and this one is set to be popular.

Moonstone Jewellery and Chunky Chains

Accessories make the 90s look, and this week we saw a 166% increase in searches for moonstone necklaces – the perfect effortless accessory.

The Abbott Lyon Organic Moonstone Sphere Chain Necklace in Gold is £84, and is versatile enough to go with every item of clothing on this list.

If you’d prefer a more affordable option, New Look’s 18ct Gold Plated Kite Pendant Necklace is just £12.99, which will offer a similar aesthetic.

A bit of personalisation makes anything an instant statement piece, and the Abbott Lyon Initial Choker in Gold for £89 allows you to customise with your initials on the front.

The layered necklace trend isn’t going anywhere, and you can do double chains too if it fits your look. River Island’s Silver Colour Multi-Row Chunky Chain Necklace is £15, and can give any outfit the edge it needs.

Kitten Heels

As the 90s swoop back in, kitten heels have clawed their way back, being up in searches by 103%. These are the perfect way to make your leopard print trousers or wide leg joggers look more sophisticated.

If you’re not quite ready for leopard print trousers, a pair of kitten heels like these are the perfect way to dip your toe in. Literally. These are River Island Brown Leopard Print Sling Back Heeled Shoes at £36.

Monsoon’s Diamante Bow Kitten Heels were originally £75 but are now £37.50, and these are the ones if you want school disco chic.

Bag Charms

Nothing quite says 90s like a bag charm jangling as you walk, and they are up in searches by 146% right now, so add some personalisation to your Britpop autumn look.

Keep it mindful and demure (IYKYK) with the Abbott Lyon Metal Letter Key Ring in Rose Gold or Gold for £25. Personal and classy.

Monsoon’s Rainbow Faux Fur Bag Charm is £8, and will transport any bag back to the 90s. Seriously, any bag. Try it.

While we can’t guarantee the Gallaghers won’t fall out again before the gig, you can bet that effortless 90s style is going absolutely nowhere. And if you thought this trend couldn’t be made seasonal, Britpop autumn is ready for you.
