Last Minute Pop Culture Halloween Outfits You Can Find in Your Wardrobe

We’ve all been there, it’s October 30th and we have NO idea what to wear for Halloween. Yes, we received the party invite at the beginning of the month but after 5 years of being a black cat, we’ve run out of ideas. Plus, do we really want to delve in our purses to spend the cash?

Not to mention the fact that 7 million Halloween costumes are thrown out every year which is the equivalent to a staggering 83 million plastic bottles, all gone to waste just for one day’s wear.

With this in mind, we spoke with Megan Watkins, Head Stylist for SilkFred, and here she has revealed 5 last-minute pop-culture inspired Halloween costumes for 2024 using items from your wardrobe. You will save your money, a stressful trip to the shops and might just bag a ‘best dressed’ accolade.

1. Charli xcx

If you went through summer 2024 without purchasing something in the now-iconic ‘brat green’, then we are impressed. However, most of us now have a neon wardrobe that doesn’t give the same kind of vibes in colder weather.

Megan says: “No, it doesn’t need to be the summer to carry on wearing brat green. In fact, all you need is some edgy lime green pieces, some dark shades and some serious attitude in order to pull off this on-trend costume.”

“Combine Y2K trends you may already have in your wardrobe like baby tees and mini skirts and add a pop of lime green – whether that be with a micro handbag or belt. Alternatively, you can finally put that neon eyeshadow palette to use and go for a brat green smokey eye look!”

2. Raygun

Relive the most iconic moment of this years Paris Olympics and dress up as Australia’s breakout star Raygun.

Megan suggests: ”Got matching tracksuits, polo top, baseball cap and think you can dance? Raygun is the perfect choice if you’re looking for laughs this Halloween.”

“Although you can bring in Australia’s signature gold and green into your outfit, a coordinating tracksuit in any colour will do. You can always accessorise with some fun breaking inspired pieces like headbands, wrist sweatbands and of course – some gold hoops.”

3. Cowboy Carter

With cowboy-inspired trends taking over our wardrobes for the past 2 years, recreating Beyonce’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ aesthetic has never been easier.

Megan adds: “With this being our first Halloween after Beyoncé’s foray into country music—and her iconic take on Western fashion—it feels only right to embrace the vibe with a bejewelled cowboy hat, a classic pair of Levi’s, and our finest Americana attire as October 31st approaches.”

“All you need is some good denim – flared if possible – white tank top, cowboy hat, cowboy boots and a seriously long blonde wig.”

4. Zendaya in the Challengers

You don’t have to be a tennis pro for this one, but you will have to have engaged in the popular tenniscore trend this year.

Megan suggests: “Stepping away from the basic vests and skorts, Zendaya’s press tour looks for Challengers gave us a masterclass on how to blend sportswear and high fashion. However, if you’re not in possession of some tennis ball heels, taking inspiration from the fits worn in the film will also work well.”

“To nail this aesthetic for Halloween items like headbands, white scrunchy socks and a jumper in cream or white draped across the shoulders will give you that Tenniscore vibe. You can also raid your Dad’s stash of tennis racquets for a cute accessory.”

5. Daniel Craig & Rachel Weisz at the Loewe show

If you’re going for a couples costume, Daniel Craig & Rachel Weisz’s colourful ensembles are an easy and sure win. When the couple stepped out in Paris for the Loewe show – Craig in a funky knit, yellow-tinted sunglasses and parachute pants –  and Rachel in a two-tone fuzzy jumper and jeans – the internet went into a frenzy.

Megan suggests: “Recreate our favourite moment of Fashion Month by dressing as the most unexpected breakout style stars, Daniel Craig & Rachel Weisz.”

“This is a super laid back look, all you need is a few key components that you may already have in your wardrobe. Pair colourful knit jumpers, Y2K-inspired parachute pants, hiking boots and fun sunglasses – basically anything that looks like you’ve got a hike at 7pm and an ugly sweater competition at 8pm. The secret to nailing this costume? Don’t brush your hair.”
