Tips to Go From Sofa to Street Chic as the Temperatures Drop

Tips to Go From Sofa to Street Chic as the Temperatures Drop

November 25, 2024

Snow is forecast this week in the UK and there’s nothing more appealing than staying in and wearing a loungewear set, leggings, comfy socks, and slippers. But we’re also approaching the business of shopping, Christmas lunches, and catching up with friends and family. With ‘winter fashion’ seeing 11k posts on TikTok in the last seven days alone, fashion experts at Lounge are sharing four top tips on how to stay warm and comfy this autumn winter without compromising on style.

Emily Blount, Head of Product at Lounge says: “We’ve seen an uprise in celebrities and influencers taking comfort and loungewear to a new level, adding styling that looks chic and as ready for a lunch out as it does on the sofa. Not only is this look stylish and modern, but it also means you’re comfy all winter long.”

Below, Emily shares her expert opinions with us on how to elevate your lounge look in the lead-up to Christmas and beyond:

1. A perfect match

There’s a knack for getting the effortless lounge style right to stop your outfit from looking like you’ve simply gotten out of bed and left the house. One tip is to keep the base of your outfit matching where possible. Accessories, or whatever you choose to layer on top can be to personal taste, but keeping the base neutral and matching in both colour and material can make the outfit look more ‘put together’.

Interest in beige products from Lounge shoppers is up 450% in the last four weeks and grey is up 883% showing that autumn neutrals are here to stay.

Keeping at least one element of a lounge set structured can help avoid the pyjama look, and with searches for “lounge two-piece” up 50%, it’s clear that this trend is set to continue.

2. Don’t underestimate the power of the sock

When it comes to a simple look like this, the devil is in the detail. Socks can make the difference between an outfit looking tired or chic.

Textured socks are gaining popularity on TikTok, often featured in “outfit hacks” to bring a pop of personality to neutral loungewear. Combined with trending sweater sets — especially those with matching pants and tops — these accessories show off an elevated comfort that feels modern and chic.

In fact, searches for ‘crew socks’ are up 22% and this simple statement helps keep a clean aesthetic whilst breaking up a monochromatic look if the matching lounge set is what you’ve gone with.

Textured socks are also being seen on fashion influencers across TikTok for a feminine twist on the ‘socks on show’ style.

3. Outdoor clothing

When wearing a simple lounge set, it’s important to consider your outdoor wear such as shoes and coats. TikTok fashion influencer Pauline Navy (62.4k followers) nails the trend of home comfort to outdoor chic with layers of leggings and slipper boots but adds a longer coat, scarf and sunglasses to elevate the look.

Whilst trainers can add a clean/casual edge to your look, using chunkier boots or slipper boots can help a cosy outfit look more ‘dressed up’.

A simple leather jacket can also be added for texture and personality, but more recently, influencers have been wearing longer coats with their lounge sets either with a soft teddy finish or a classic trench coat.

4. Sunglasses aren’t just for summer

We’re seeing a lot of celebrities and influencers using sunglasses not only to protect their eyes from the bright winter sun, but also to elevate their loungewear look.

Whether you’re a fan of big and bold sunnies or you’re on board with the 24’ trend of sculptural cat-eye shades, sunglasses are a great way to accessorise what may look like a simple cosy outfit.

Sophia Tuxford, co-host of the popular podcast The Girls Bathroom uses this technique. She takes simple loungewear and pairs it with sunglasses… a simple step to go from chilling at home to out and about on a winter’s day.
