5 Must-Have Pieces to Achieve the Fisherman Aesthetic

5 Must-Have Pieces to Achieve the Fisherman Aesthetic

February 13, 2025

“Cores” have been taking over the fashion world for a few years now, spearheaded by social media platforms like TikTok.

This year, it’s all about the Fisherman aesthetic, otherwise known as “Fishermancore”.

Inspired by the sea, the fisherman aesthetic is all about channelling nautical energy, as noted in this year’s Pinterest Trends report, which has seen a huge rise in searches for cable knit jumpers, fisherman sandals and raincoat outfit ideas.

On the back of this, Google searches for ‘Fisherman aesthetic 2025’ are up over 5000% on Google over the past 12 months.

If you want to get the look and don’t know where to start, we spoke with Martina Cherry, a style expert from curated fashion website endource, and here she has revealed her 5 must-have pieces to achieve the fisherman aesthetic.

A Cosy Cable Knit Jumper

Arket cable knit jumper, £97

“If you’re going to choose anything to achieve the fisherman aesthetic, it has to be a cable knit jumper. Soft, cosy and reminiscent of breezy days at the seaside, they’re a subtle nod to the fisherman aesthetic without being too trend-focused. You can throw them over jeans and a t-shirt for a chic, laid-back look.”

Stripe tops, Sweaters and Shirts

Mango stripe shirt, £29.99

“Stripes are timeless, which makes them perfect for slotting into your wardrobe to achieve the fisherman aesthetic. Opt for a top or shirt that is slightly oversized and slouchy to really channel that laid-back maritime look. Some of my favourite pieces to achieve this look are linen striped shirts and classic Breton t-shirts.”

Chunky Wellies

Hunter Micah wellies, £168

“Once upon a time, wellies were just for rainy days and festivals. But today, wellies are often worn to make a fashion statement. One trend we’ve seen lately is chunky wellies paired with long dresses and skirts to break up what would be a traditionally feminine look. Some of my favourite wellies on the market are of course, Hunter, as that Kate Moss Glastonbury look forever inspires me, but Barbour and Boden also have some great ones too.”

Fish Accessories

Free People Fish Charm, £10

“A fun and stylish way to finish off your fisherman aesthetic outfits is with fish accessories. Think necklaces, bag charms and more. Bag charms have also been a huge trend over the past few months, with Google searches for them up 32% in the last quarter, so adding a fish keyring to your bag is a great way to nail two trends in one.”

Fisherman Sandals

The Row Fisherman sandals, £1060

“Summer is approaching fast, and the shoe to have this year will be the fisherman sandal. Comfy, breathable and chic, they match almost any outfit and are a great way to add a subtle nod to the fisherman aesthetic trend. The Row has some beautiful fisherman sandals that would last a lifetime in your wardrobe, while COS and Mango are great if you’re looking for a more mid-range price.”
