I’m a Fashion Stylist, and This is What I’ll Be Buying for My Wardrobe in 2025

March 24, 2025

Does getting dressed feel more overwhelming than you would like it to? It may be time to start afresh and build your very own capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe is a selection of curated items that can be put together to create multiple outfits which embody your personal style. It seems its popularity is on the rise, with Google searches for ‘capsule wardrobe’ increasing 33% over the past month.

From basic t-shirts and jeans to jackets or a statement piece, these items work as the foundation of your wardrobe. If you want to invest in more staple pieces or need some inspiration, Martina Cherry, an in-house stylist at fashion platform endource has put together her top picks for 2025.

A crisp white tee

COS

SKIMS

“There’s a crisp white tee in every stylist’s wardrobe for a reason. They make the perfect base for an outfit no matter what the season thanks to being comfortable, minimal, and easy to style.” Says Martina.

“I like to invest in a couple of white t-shirts each year which will see me through, with proper wear and care. One has a more boxy fit that I can style with slouchy outfits, and another is more fitted and can be styled with sleek looks. So many high-end and high street brands do amazing white t-shirts, my favourites being COS, Arket and SKIMS.”

Slouchy blue jeans that can be dressed up or down

Levi’s

& Other Stories

“Slouchy blue jeans are a wardrobe staple I can’t live without. The ideal fit is not too slim and not too baggy; instead, it is sitting somewhere in between, which can be hard to get right. The fit of jeans is subjective, so I always recommend people go for a pair they feel comfortable and confident in, be they high-waisted, low-waisted, slim, or baggy.”

For those on the hunt for the perfect pair of jeans, Martina recommends these brands:

“My favourite brand for jeans is, of course, Levi’s. They have a really good selection and lots of different styles, which is great when you’re trying to find the perfect pair. & Other Stories also do some great jeans at a reasonable price point too.”

A timeless pair of loafers is a wardrobe must-have

Saint Laurent

Arket

Martina tells us, “Although loafers are having a moment right now, they’re a timeless staple that never goes out of style. Black or brown leather loafers can dress up jeans and a t-shirt or even track pants if you’re styling up the elevated athleisure trend we’ve seen on the catwalk lately.”

“Suede loafers are also everywhere right now, and they’re great for the summer months as they’re less formal, easier to style, and pair excellently with light, breezy fabrics such as linen, making them high on my purchase list this year. If you want to invest in a high-end pair, I recommend Isabel Marant and Saint Laurent, but for a good-quality high-street pair, look no further than Arket or COS.”

Good quality knitwear is an essential investment

American Vintage

Extreme Cashmere

“For the most part, I don’t think you need to invest in expensive pieces to create a wardrobe of good staples, but when it comes to knitwear, I think spending the extra money for 100% wool or a good quality wool blend is essential.” Martina recommends.

“Wool knitwear is great for layering under coats in the winter and on top of dresses in the summer when it gets chilly in the evening. This year, I’ll invest in knitwear in bright and pastel colours to liven up neutral spring, summer, and winter outfits. I’ve got my eye on American Vintage and Extreme Cashmere for soft knits that will stand the test of time.”

A chic tote bag can tie together any outfit

Arket

The Row

“A tote bag is a simple way to elevate your outfit and make you look more put together. Not only this, but they’re extremely practical for everyday wear. This year, I’ll invest in a good quality leather or suede tote bag to take me from work to the weekend in style.”

“There are lots of great bags out there, but The Row’s leather tote is something which will be in your wardrobe for ever. If that’s out of reach, Arket has some great alternatives at a mid-range price point in multiple colours and textures, including suede, a huge current trend.”
