The World’s Most Expensive Coffee Is Coming To Harrods This December

November 27, 2012

This December, Harrods continues to astonish its customers with its exclusive and luxurious merchandise selection.

Renowned for being the most expensive and luxurious coffee in the world, Terra Nera launches exclusively at Harrods!

The world's most expensive coffee

A steaming cup of freshly brewed Terra Nera coffee is undeniably the most exquisite way to start any day. As of next month, the world’s most expensive coffee will be exclusively available at Harrods.

Terra Nera is sourced from Quechua, a region of the Peruvian Andes with exceptional altitude. Branded as among the rarest in the world, this coffee is made from the beans of coffee berries which are then naturally fermented through a civet cat’s, or Uchunari’s, digestive tract. During this process, enzymes chemically alter the beans, thus creating a more fragrant, flavorful and utterly delightful brew. 100% Arabica, the Uchunari coffee’s rich aroma displays wonderful hints of bitter cocoa, hazelnut and dry leather with a light, clean head, a smooth and buttery body, and a velvety finish.

Most of the Terra Nera’s limited availability is explained by its dependence on the Uchunaries’ natural order. Recently, one of only three existing Uchunaries passed away, therefore reducing the production of Terra Nera by one third. Indeed, Terra Nera coffee’s yearly production has gone from 70kg to a mere 45kg. The coffee’s low production rate and scarcity on the market is correlated with its high quality, thus making it the most exclusive coffee worldwide.

Terra Nera is only available by pre-order, so that each request can be freshly prepared. Those purchasing the coffee will be receiving it in a Kraft paper pouch with an internally built freshness valve. Six grades of the coffee have been created by Terra Nera; at the grade 0, only the finest beans are hand-selected. For grade 0 coffee, 24-carat gold-plated sacks and solid Britannia sterling silver have been developed. In addition, Harrods has arranged for each sack to be individually engraved and hand-crafted with the customer’s name by renowned and award-winning silversmith Rebecca H.Joselyn. The customers who place orders of or exceeding 500g will be offered a complimentary coffee machine.

Harrods Food Hall

Terra Nera coffee will be exclusively available to pre-order from Saturday 1st December in the Food Halls, Ground Floor at Harrods. Prices range from £140 to £6,800.
