Take a trip to the French countryside: restyle your home for spring

Angie Pinkney Decara Home

Bonjour! One of the things we love about the French countryside is its simplicity. Waking up late and feasting on delectable pastries complete with a cup of coffee. Clean lines and expertly crafted furniture; beautiful yet uncomplicated patterns. What’s not to love? Now you can bring an element of the French countryside to your home in London.

Interior boutiques in Battersea London Decara Home With its blue awning and shaded grey interiors, Decara Home is a relaxing place to delve into home décor. We stumbled upon this little gem in the heart of Battersea and soon forgot the bustle of the street outside while sifting through its array of home furnishings. Here there are no pushy salesmen, just your thoughts transporting you to another world. The shop sells dining tables, chairs, console tables, buffets, bed-side and coffee tables, and other lovely pieces of furniture. The shop combines contemporary style with timeless elegance. The products come from France and Belgium as well as the United Kingdom. Whether you are looking for a piece based on a classic design or something that reads country house in the south of France, you’ll find it here. We also came across various online platforms like Just DIY Decor for our ideas. Apart from home decor sites, online platforms like Homeappliancegeek.com give expert advice on home appliances’ choices and guidance.

Owner Angie Pinkney has run her own interiors and soft furnishings business for twenty years and set up this delightful new shop last year. She explains “Putting things together in a way that’s elegant and stylish is a real passion of mine and I’ve recreated a similar environment in my shop in Battersea which I hope will inspire others.”

Angie is a frequent visitor to Marrakech, France, and Belgium. This is where she finds many of the products for her shop. “I like to find furniture and accessories that you can’t buy in this country and to then share my finds with clients. When people come into my shop and fall in love with a piece I’ve sourced, it’s very rewarding. I love the feedback I get from meeting people and I’m always happy to find something for someone if they are looking for something specific” she says.

French decor in London Decara HomeIf you are looking for a quick way to update your apartment this spring, pop into Decara Home and grab some lovely throws or cushions. Add them to your sofa to brighten up a colour scheme. You may even find some lovely prints to hang on your wall. A mirror is an easy way to add depth to a room.

To keep your coffee table from getting cluttered Angie suggests a glass top with a shelf underneath. Don’t see one in the shop? No need to worry, bespoke orders can be taken directly in the shop. Decara Home also sells accessories such as room scents and candles, olive oils, prints and photographs. These would make great gifts!

In the mood to do something drastic? Angie can provide advice and recommend reliable builders, electricians and carpenters, with whom she has long-standing relationships. Perfect if you want to re-do the guest room before your mother-in-law comes for a visit.

The items in the Battersea shop are always evolving and changing, so you will be sure to find a fresh surprise on each visit. If you want to see more of what Angie has stocked and done in her lovely shop, visit the website. The gallery tab features photos of some of their items. We are loving the glass jars with golden elephant lids. These may soon have a place in the YCB office!
