Wild levels of colours from the heart of Africa

Trunk Collection

For those who have travelled to the wondrous land of Africa you will understand the longing it creates in your heart. After all, there must be a yearning reason for Meryl Streep to fall in love with the continent! Inspired by that same passion for Africa and founded on a desire to share its creativity, Trunk Collection represents devotion for discovering new products that look good, feel better and make a difference. Living in a mass produced world it celebrates quality and individuality. The gallery’s collection includes cushions and ceramics whose natural materials, bright colours and bold designs evoke the beauty of Africa while promoting fairtrade craftmanship. Queue Toto’s “Africa.”

The online gallery of African artisan crafts is a collection of design-led contemporary products for your wardrobe and home. Founder Janet Milner draw on her childhood days spent in South Africa to curate the selection of bright, bold interiors. Now based in London, Janet and her husband have over the years travelled to Africa; returning they often found themselves laden with suitcases of beautiful and unusual products to accessorise their home with. From there came the notion to introduce their finds to a larger audience. ‘On a more recent journey back we decided it was time to set up shop ourselves in the UK and share these great finds with others leading to the launch of the Trunk Collection.’

Not only are these African designed treasures home make-over worthy, they give back by partnering with many fair trade brands. ‘When deciding to set up our own business ethical work standards and investing in the development of your team were key values for building the foundation of our business.’

Interior decor from the heart of Africa

Depending on your home and whether you have a contemporary or classical space; Trunk Collection’s ceramics and cushions are bright in accent colours with complex designs and textures; suitable for revitalising both living styles. Africa is a country full of contrasts and now you are given the chance to welcome that spirit into your home.

Summer is the best time to experiment with daring embellishments – orange, shades of blue, lime and green are all on trend. From working with the Trunk Collection we have learnt that it’s surprisingly easy to change the feel of your room (without robbing the bank or shedding lots of time) with cushion covers or adding a new decorative vase or bowl.

What better way to incorporate this than their ‘upcycling’ collection; where materials such as grass, beads, clay and ceramics are utilised to create an authentic African feel. Many others would disregard these natural materials, missing out on the warmth of African energy. The colours attached to Africa resemble mood enhancing emotions so the introduction of these colours to your living space can be extremely therapeutic.

Interior design for your home from Africa

Okay so to revamp our home with three selected pieces from the Trunk Collection, what would we pick? The Lorrae Vase, Lime Tree Cushion Covers and Animal Trophy Heads. By integrating these pieces to your home, you will automatically add depth and heat reminiscent of rich safari sunsets and devastatingly beautiful landscapes – we so enviously witness on television or through displays of photography.

Don’t let the distance of Africa deter you from welcoming its allure to your home. Let your home embody the diverse artistic heritage with the Trunk Collection’s visually enhancing collection.
