In London, one of the most polluted cities in Europe, campaigners for a more eco-friendly future were seen riding an array of yellow ‘ofo’ bikes that absorb pollution.
Ahead of World Car-Free Day tomorrow (September 22), a fleet of 15 ‘ofo’ flower bicycles took to London’s streets to promote a more eco-friendly London. The yellow ‘ofo’ bikes were laden with flowers known to have a beneficial impact on air quality and absorb pollution.
The bicycles, pedalled by a host of young Londoners, made their way across the city’s main landmarks such as the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and Horseguards Parade on the capital’s newest dockless bikes. ofo is the latest bike sharing scheme to land in the UK as a competitor to the Boris Bikes.
The flowers on the bikes included chrysanthemums, gerberras, sunflowers – known to remove ammonia, benzene, xylene and formaldehyde from the atmosphere – and dracaena, ficus and Boston fern – which remove benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene.
