After a long day the only thing you want to do is unwind and relax and there is nothing better for both your body and mind then a luxurious spa trip. But the spa does come with a glamourous price tag which can turn you off the idea altogether.
Here comes the solution, why not turn your bathroom into an at-home spa? Think about it, your bathroom is the perfect location, a private space equipped with a relaxing shower or warm bath to de-stress. With a few more elements added, your bathroom will envision a calming spa atmosphere. Luckily, we teamed up with interior designer Vanessa Arbuthnott who shared her expertise on how you can enhance all five senses and recreate the ultimate spa experience right in the comfort of your own home.
Install dimming lights
If a late-night bath is your thing then try and opt for recessed ceiling lights or wall scones that come with dimmer controls. With the help of a dimmer you can soften your harsh lighting and get the spa-like feel when you need a soothing soak in the bath. You can even go the extra mile and install coloured lights for added ambience. Failing that, you can light some candles and place them around the bathroom!
Earthy colour palettes
Nature-inspired colours such as brown, grey, green and soft duck egg blue, can give your bathroom a real organic feel. If your bathroom is on the smaller side, then opt for a lighter and more neutral colour scheme. Darker colours can create a more powerful atmosphere which isn’t as relaxing. Taupe, light grey, pale green and soft blues can let your senses be smooth and also can make a small space feel bigger.
Stylish blinds
A pretty linen blind will add to the bathroom ambience and create a private feel – shut away the night as you prepare for your luxurious spa bath. You can opt for bathroom rollers or roman blinds depending on your bathroom size and existing lighting options. Roller blinds are smart and simple, they cover bathroom windows with a single piece of fabric and can be rolled down to provide and shade and privacy. You can still use your windowsill to place your spa accessories by adjusting it to your preference. For a bathroom window I would recommend a laminated roller blind or processed roller blind which team up great with my woven designer fabrics and added flat pelmet if the blind is in recess.
Bathtub caddy
This is the ultimate bathroom accessory which gives you spa vibes. The simple addition makes a big impression and comes in many different styles which suit your bathroom. A tub caddy is one of the best ways to have an enjoyable bathing experience. They allow easy access to your favourite bath accessories and hold things such as candles, books and glasses.
Mix in nature
Green plants help to create a healthy environment and a tranquil setting. Bathrooms do have lower light, high humidity and warmer temperatures in the house as opposed to other rooms so it is important to find plants which will flourish in this environment. Examples of using plants in the bathroom can be displaying potted plants on counters, ledges, and floors, in the shower as well as hanging plants from the ceiling.
This brings in color, personality and energy. Go for the full visual ambience by incorporating vines that trail down from the shelves.
Upgrade your shower head
Your shower is the focal point of the room and should be made as luxurious as possible. Provide a spa-like feel by adding in a rainfall shower head. A steam shower also adds luxury whilst nourishing the skin and leaving it with a healthy glow.
Display your pampering
Treat yourself to your favourite spa pleasures such as body scrubs, bath salts and sheet masks. Display them on open shelves or in pretty glass jars on the counter. Many beauty brands have lovely packaging for their products which look elegant running along the edge of the bath or on shelves.
