Homemade Hamper For Her: Checklist & Inspiration

Homemade Hamper For Her: Checklist & Inspiration

September 29, 2020

Giving gifts is a complicated business. Especially for a girl that has everything, whether that’s your bff, sister, mother or girlfriend. Everything becomes a bit ‘samey’ and if you’re looking to stand out and find unique gifts for women, a hamper is a great way to achieve just that.

It can be extremely thoughtful too, tailored perfectly to suit you and your dear recipient. Your hamper can also be adjusted to suit your budget, with lots of options for handmade gifts.

Let’s get started…!

First of all you need to decide on a theme. This is a lot more fun than it sounds and – not to make it sound like work – will give your gift focus. For example, you could have a foodie theme, an adventuring or travel theme and so on.

Alternatively, if you’ve already got small gift ideas in mind, why not make ‘her’ the theme. For example, all the things that remind you of her or a hamper of her favourite things, such as coffee blend, a candle, flowers, perfume or toiletry products. It can be as practical or sentimental as you choose.

Get Your Hamper

Again, there are plenty of options when it comes to the hamper itself. Many people steam on ahead and buy this item first before the gifts to go inside but this often results in sizing and spacing issues (particularly once everything is wrapped up). Therefore, we’d recommend buying your hamper or gift box once you’ve got a solid idea of how much you need to fit inside it.

A top tip if you’re on a budget – fancy, wicker hampers can be extremely expensive. You may be better off looking for large, plain gift boxes. These can often be found in budget stores like Wilko, B&M or Home Bargains. It also gives you the opportunity to decorate and personalise the box for yourself. Alternatively, if it suits your theme, why not make the hamper part of the gift itself? Choose a stylish storage or moses basket to house all your goodies.

Does There Need To Be A ‘Central’ Gift In A Hamper?

The short answer, absolutely not.

But it depends on how much you’re wanting to spend on your loved one. Perhaps you’ve already bought tickets to an experience or have something else lined up and are just looking to augment your present. One fun thing you can do with the hamper is use the items as suggestions so the recipient can guess what the other gift is.

Of course, you can make your hamper your primary gift. We know it will be thoughtful (if you’re reading this article we know you’ve spent time looking into things) and so will your recipient. Take your time to choose items that really suit your theme and her, looking around for unique gifts as you shop is always a good idea.

One way to really elevate the sentiment behind your gift is to include small notes with each wrapped item, detailing why you chose it, or how it reminds you of the person or how you envision them using it. It’s guaranteed to bring a smile to both your faces.

Small Gift Ideas To Include At Christmas

  • A christmas ornament or bauble
  • A christmas pudding or themed food items

Don’t forget, packaging!

If you’re sending your homemade hamper through the mail or are just keen for the presentation to be perfect, there’s a couple of things to remember:

  • Style and arrange your hamper gifts so they are all facing up. This way everything will be well-presented when the recipient opens the box.
  • Choose a theme for your wrapping items and if you decide to leave the sentimental notes on each item, we recommend using (or making) gift tags
  • Don’t forget appropriate wrapping especially if your hamper includes food items. Use bubble wrap, packing peanuts or gift straw to protect everything. Alternatively, you can style up the newspaper with your wrapping if it suits your budget.
  • It will be expensive to send a large hamper through the post. Don’t forget to factor that into your costs if you’re on a budget.
  • Wrap your gifts and then arrange the layout within the hamper – things will be slightly larger once wrapped!
