Spicing Up Your Sex Life While Holding Onto the Purse Strings This Christmas

Spicing Up Your Sex Life While Holding Onto the Purse Strings This Christmas

December 15, 2024

The festive season is a time for love, giving, and yes, a little extra magic in the bedroom. But with the average UK household already set to spend £1,811 on Christmas this year, from gifts to decorations, it’s no wonder relationships can feel the strain of financial pressure. When wallets are stretched, this can affect our energy and intimacy too.

Sex and relationships expert Annabelle Knight says that many people fall into the trap of thinking they need to spend lots on luxury lingerie and pricey sex toys in order to reignite the spark, but this isn’t the case. She has partnered with classified ad site, Vivastreet to discuss how nurturing intimacy without financial strain can not only save money but also deepen connection during the busiest time of year.

Here Anabelle has shared her hottest low-cost tips for adding some Christmas sparkle to your love life this December.

  • Explore Sensual Massage: Massages are extremely intimate and help set the mood for things to come. There are some really affordable oils available that will help elevate the feeling and scent experience for you both. You can save even more by using a body moisturiser or even coconut oil you already have.
  • Create a DIY Date Night: Set up a romantic evening at home with candles, music, and your favourite meal. The effort can feel just as special as an expensive outing, but without the expensive price tag. Research also shows that cooking together can help to increase intimacy levels by boosting oxytocin and creating a shared sense of accomplishment and appreciation.
  • Try New Positions: One of the best ways to ignite the spark is by changing things up. Look up inspiration (safely!) and experiment with different positions, this will create an intimate bond and also help to communicate your sexual needs and desires.
  • Roleplay with What You Have: Get imaginative by using clothes or props you already have in the wardrobe to create a playful roleplay scenario. There’s no need to buy expensive costumes and getting creative together will help bring you closer as a couple.
  • Write Sexy Notes: Slip a sexy note into your partner’s pocket. Unlike a ‘sext’, notes up the ante as they could be discovered by anyone! They also help to build positive anticipation, meaning their day will just get better and better until they see you.
  • Set the Mood with Lighting: Switch up the atmosphere with fairy lights, go old school with some candles, or dim the lights to create a romantic atmosphere. This is a really inexpensive way to create a luxuriously sexy setting.
  • DIY Bedroom Games: Create a sexy game to play. Something like homemade “truth or dare” would be great, you can add your own intimate challenges and sexy rewards that are personal to you both. You don’t need to spend a penny.
  • Experiment with Temperature: Studies show that experimenting with temperature play can lead to increased arousal, meaning you can enjoy sensations even more. To avoid spending, use ice cubes or warm water, to play or there are a lot of reasonably priced body-safe products that will create different sensations during foreplay.
  • Rediscover Your Bodies: Spend time focusing on touch without the goal of sex. Show one another where and how you like to be touched. Reconnecting in this way will help you to explore each other’s likes and dislikes in a pressure-free, and fun way.

The festive season is about connection and joy, which extends to your intimate life as well. By embracing creativity and focusing on connection rather than consumption, you can turn the holiday season into an opportunity to rediscover each other. After all, intimacy is about the effort and intention behind your actions, not the amount you spend.
