Dine like royalty at The Rib Room in Knightsbridge

Located on the corner of Sloane Street and Cadogan Place in Jumeirah Carlton Tower, The Rib Room first opened in 1961, claiming to serve the best beef in Britain. Like the finest wines and the best cuts of beef The Rib Room has aged well, and remains the perfect restaurant for an exclusive date night, business meeting or celebratory family dinner.

Shown to our table by wonderfully helpful waiters, we drank in our surroundings, awe-struck by the artfully glamorous green, amber and gold interior. Head chef Ian Rudge is known for injecting new flavours in to traditional British dishes, so we were excited to sit down with our menus and see what seasonal produce was on offer.

After a long time perusing the fabulous menu filled with upscale dishes, we eventually settled on half a dozen Loch Fyne Angel oysters, and Scottish lobster and cured salmon with wasabi dressing to start. It might be called The Rib Room but this restaurant has an array of deep sea delicacies on offer too!

You can't leave The Rib Room without trying their steaksFor our main we chose the Lobster Thermidor, which came with a baby leaf salad and lemon dressing and easily lived up to the high expectations we had of the seafood after our starters. Of course, we also had to order the infamous Rib Room steaks (you cannot leave The Rib Room without trying their steaks!) The dry aged 8oz fillet was absolutely extraordinary; we savoured every mouthwatering bite and suspect we’ll now be sorely disappointed by every other steak we have in the future.

Despite all the delicious fish and hearty meat, we couldn’t possibly leave without satisfying our sweet tooth. Dessert was caramelised banana with homemade vanilla bean ice cream and rum and raisins, and a Manjari chocolate moelleux – a chocolate mousse with a salted caramel and pistachio centre, served with milk ice cream. We have to say that the chocolate mousse was probably the best chocolate dessert (if not the best dessert!) we’ve ever had the immense pleasure of tasting. Forget diamonds; chocolate is definitely a girl’s best friend!

Head sommelier Louise Gordon was on hand throughout the night to recommend one of The Rib Room’s 450 wines to complement our dishes, but if you’re more of a cocktail girl the Knightsbridge restaurant does not disappoint! Just as The Rib Room has a passion for British beef, it also pays homage to the fact that London is the birthplace of gin with its selection of classic gin cocktails and artisan bitters. With mysterious and enticing names like Sloane Street Vesper, Damson Bramble and The Venus we could have stayed at the bar all night exploring all the exquisite flavour combinations of the glamorous cocktails while channeling our inner Daisy Buchanan!

With live music on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings, The Rib Room bar is a glamorous destination for a leisurely evening drink with friends, or a light bite with colleagues after work. There’s also the bar and restaurant terrace, which offers a secluded al fresco lounge where – whilst the British summer sun lasts – you can enjoy your morning coffee, or unwind as the sun sets. So whether you’re celebrating an anniversary, want to impress an important client or just want to relax in the most elegant surroundings London has to offer, make The Rib Room your destination of choice this summer.
