A Stately Dinner Date At The Montague On The Gardens
A stately dinner date at The Montague on the Gardens
Make the most of the warmer weather with an elegant and scenic al fresco dining experience
This summer, the prestigious The Montague on the Gardens has opened its highly popular dining facility; The Terrace and The Garden Grill. Located in the heart of Bloomsbury, this four-star establishment hosts an amazing spot for sophisticated, al fresco dining.
The Terrace and The Garden Grill overlooks the beautiful gardens of the Bedford Estate – a fabulous place to bask in the sunshine and enjoy a refreshing glass of rose and a lovely meal with the added luxury of a scenic backdrop – al fresco at its finest! The secluded terrace and wood deck make this property one of London’s specialities: a peaceful, private and serene spot in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the capital, where you can enjoy breakfasts, lunches, dinners and Afternoon Tea in the balmy open-air. Le sigh!
The Montague on the Gardens’ Bloomsbury location is in very close proximity to many of our capital’s most cherished historical and entertainment spots, which makes The Terrace and The Garden Grill an excellent place to stop off before or after a busy day in the sun! From The Terrace and The Garden Grill, you can easily access top shopping locations in Covent Garden and Oxford Circus, West End Theatres and The Royal Opera House, London Zoo and much more. A delightful culinary experience after a long, working day (or a long day of retail therapy) sounds perfect to us!
True to Bloomsburian style, seeking inspiration from the elegance of the 1920s and 1930s, the ambience and décor of The Terrace is very much inspired by the era of the literary greats. The 19th century grandeur of solid wood upholstery, jacquard patterns and elegant ornaments is just the setting where we can imagine dining and socialising with the likes of Virginia Woolf, or E.M. Forster. The Terrace’s à la carte menu most definitely takes on this aesthetic, but is eclectic in that classic dishes have a modern twist, creating a mouth-watering selection.
We at Your Coffee Break were invited to sample the evening à la carte menu at the Terrace, and we were thoroughly impressed with the experience! If you’re anything like us, you take your dinner very seriously and so we are delighted to say that we now have the restaurant bookmarked and we suggest you do the same if you are up for trying new fabulous places around the city. Featuring starters such as the Cream of aubergine soup with toasted cumin and the Dorset crab with gazpacho sauce and pea shoot salad, the menu left us feeling spoilt for choice, not to mention enthusiastic to taste the colourful array of dishes!
With the help of the attentive (and impeccably dressed) staff, we opted for the Arbroath smokie fish cake with poached egg and chive butter sauce, and the Grilled goat’s cheese and beetroot salad with gooseberry dressing. The staff were experienced and had a great knowledge of the menu, suggesting a perfect wine accompaniment to our meal, with ease. Both starter dishes arrived promptly, yet were beautifully and delicately presented, and fresh.
The fishcake had a crispy exterior and strong, fresh flavours, complimented by the delicate poached egg and the chive butter sauce. The Grilled goat’s cheese and beetroot salad was also a fine fusion of flavours, with a unique dressing that we had never tried before – but went down a treat!
For the main course, we selected the Rack of lamb with a herb crust, dauphinoise potatoes and basil jus and the 10oz Rib eye steak with garlic Portabella mushroom and chunky chips. The meat was perfectly cooked, succulent and flavoursome. The dauphinoise potatoes were superbly seasoned, and the chips were perfectly crispy and fluffy at the same time. The Strawberry meringue sorbet with roasted mango and pineapple for dessert was a charming end to the meal – a lovely summery dish!
A perfect summer party venue, The Terrace and The Garden Grill can cater for large groups and functions, with packages and options available for up to 200 guests. However, the sophistication of The Terrace makes it a perfect place for more private occasions, such as a client or business meal, or a dinner date.
Take advantage of the warmer weather with first-class al fresco dining at The Terrace and The Garden Grill. From wherever you may be located in London, or if you are visiting the city this summer, it is most certainly worth the visit. Fantastic food, drinks, staff, location, atmosphere… the list goes on! If you’re looking for all of the above, then we wholeheartedly recommend The Terrace and The Garden Grill to you.
