New York: the place where everyone from penniless full-of-hope artists to the already rich and famous go to live their dreams. If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere right? But why would you want to go anywhere else? The Big Apple has it all, from the best global cuisine, a vibrant nightlife and the most exciting art scene in the world, to fantastic theatres and breath taking architecture.
Boasting a mix of art deco, gothic and modern architecture, New York has a huge array of fascinating buildings to choose from. It’s no wonder so many different celebrities have made The City That Never Sleeps their home! New York has attracted celebrities from all walks of life, from Jay Z to Liam Gallagher. The Oasis front man has come a long way since his humble beginnings in the rough borders of Manchester (where his mum still lives despite being offered a house elsewhere by her son, if local gossip is to be believed!) Last year his two bedroom apartment in Manhattan went on the market for a cool $4 million. We hope the place at least comes furnished for that sort of money…!
Unlike the Brit, Jay Z and wife Beyoncé show no signs of leaving New York. Pop’s most powerful couple live in the extremely luxurious Trump World Tower. Their crazy condo has five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a kitchen, a library, living quarters for the maid, and neighbours include Bruce Willis, Harrison Ford and Donald Trump. (Now that’s a house party we want an invite to please!) We’ve heard rumours that Mr. and Mrs. Carter’s pad costs $65,000 a month just to rent!
While some celebs live the high life in New York, no expenses spared, others lead a (slightly) more normal life. Take ultimate New Yorker and YCB favourite Sarah Jessica Parker for example – while her Sex and The City character is loved by women everywhere (and secretly men) for her witty one-liners, dating fiascos and amazing shoe collection, in real life SJP lives a laid back life with her husband and three children in Greenwich Village. We love that she’s often papped on the streets of New York taking her kids to school and popping out for a coffee wearing ensembles as crazy and fashion-forward as her on screen alter ego.
So, whether celebrities choose to throw themselves into the every day down to earth New York lifestyle or rent an apartment high up in a tower soaring over the city, one thing’s for certain: they can’t get enough of the sweet life in the Big Apple!
