Top cities in America to visit
Work has finally settled down. The kids are out of school, and your mate is ready for some adventure. How about a holiday in America? Here are 10 must-see cities in the U.S:
1. New York City
The Big Apple, the city that never sleeps, I <3 NY — no matter what you say about the Capital of the World, paying this behemoth a visit would be the experience of a lifetime. While you’re there, be sure to visit the Empire State Building, the World Trade Center Memorial, Central Park and the Statue of Liberty. And don’t forget the fabulous eateries dotted throughout the city.
2. San Francisco
There is certainly more to San Francisco than Rice-A-Roni. The city welcomes you with one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Golden Gate Bridge. From there, you can visit Golden Gate Park, tour Alcatraz, visit the Palace of Fine Arts or take a ride on a cable car. You’re sure to have a smashing good time in the Bay City.
3. Charleston, SC
Also known as “ChuckTown” or the Holy City, this beautiful southern belle of a town is an absolute treat to visit. From the winding narrow roads to the Rainbow Row of mansion houses along the harbor, this city oozes southern charm. Visit the Old Slave Mart, walk the tour of homes or chow down on the local fare at one of the city’s best restaurants. For some relaxation, you can drive 20 minutes to Folly Beach.
4. Chicago
The Windy City is a mid-western playground and bustling metropolis that is nestled next to Lake Michigan. The Chicago River, which turns green during St. Patrick’s Day, runs through the center of city, creating quite a whimsical view. Known for its famous deep dish pizza dating back to 1943, and the Chicago dog going back even further to 1910, there are plenty of delish eats. The city also boasts many attractions including Willis Tower Skydeck, the Field Museum, Millennium Park, Lincoln Park Zoo and Six Flags Great America.
5. Washington, D.C.
The capital of the United States is filled with interesting sights and activities. From the Smithsonian Museums to the Holocaust Museum, Washington, D.C. does not fail to impress. Take a ride on the metro to see the city in less time. Also, visit the White House, Capital Building, Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument to complete this tour of U.S. History. And while you are there, remember to visit the Pentagon Building and Arlington National Cemetery.
6. New Orleans, LA
The Birthplace of Jazz, smooth and subtle, the city of New Orleans is as artful as it is eclectic. There is so much to see (and eat) in this city, including Bourbon Street, the French Quarter, Jackson square, City Park and the Audubon Zoo. So sip your tea (or Chickory coffee) and eat your beignets at Café Du Monde — and remember to try a bit of King’s Cake, too.
7. Nashville, TN
Nashville, TN is the hometown of country music. The Grand Ole Opry is a sight to see, along with the Opryland Hotel, the Country Music Hall of Fame and RCA studio B where Elvis recorded his music. Get your “shop on” at Opry Mills and your “eat on” at one of Nashville’s famous BBQ restaurants. And if you are feeling sporty, you can watch the Tennessee Titans play football (not soccer).
8. Orlando, FL
Everyone wants to visit the happiest place on Earth — Disneyworld. In Orlando, you can do that as well as participate in a host of other entertaining activities. The weather is great, and the attractions are greater. See Whoville in Universal Studios. Build a cool creation in LEGOLAND®, and pet a dolphin in Discovery Cove at SeaWorld — just to name a few. The kids will love you if Orlando is your vacation destination of choice, and Mickey will show you a time you won’t soon forget.
9. Denver, CO
The Mile High city is a place of inspiration and outdoor sport. Test your skill whitewater rafting, and strut your stuff skiing on a snow-capped mountain top. And after a long, active day, take a dip in one of the area’s hot springs. No adventure is perfect without tasting the local cuisine, and you can do just that at a variety of fine establishments.
10. Sedona, AZ
Arizona helps you get in touch with your inner self, and Sedona is just the place to explore your spiritual side. Take an outdoor jeep tour around the red painted mountains or hike a trail among red rocks. Cleanse your body as you detox at one of the programs offered in Sedona. No matter what you do, you are sure to return to real life anew.
So whether you are ready for some big-city excitement, amusement park fun, backwoods exploring or a detox cleanse, there is a city for you in America. Pack your bags. Get your tickets and let’s go!
