Adorable Winnie-the-Pooh Themed Afternoon Tea at The Pelham For The Entire Family To Enjoy

March 19, 2018

In celebration of V&A’s latest exhibition “Winnie-the-Pooh: Exploring a Classic”, the iconic Pelham Hotel in Kensington is offering guests a themed Afternoon Tea like no other! Fans of all ages can now spend an entire day together with perhaps the world’s most famous bear and his little friends. Indulge in treats and drinks preferred by Pooh himself with the Silly Old Bear Afternoon Tea at the Pelham before entering the Victoria and Albert Museum to fully emerge in to the playful world that is the Hundred Acre Wood.

Few creative relationships have been as successful as the one of the British writer AA Milne and illustrator E.H. Shepard taking off in the 1920s. Hundred years later, Winnie-the-Pooh is still our favourite beloved bear, with the new Disney movie Christopher Robin (set to hit theatres in 2018) and Goodbye Christopher Robin starring Margot Robbie in 2017. Timely enough, The V&A has set up a grand exhibition in honour of Pooh-Bear.

The exhibition consists of a collection of drawings, photographs and letters from the museum’s own archive. Alongside loans from other famous gatherings, such as the private collection of Queen Elisabeth, it has become the largest Winnie-the-Pooh exhibition seen to date. The display also include more contemporary features of the classic story, linked to the success of the Walt Disney animations along with merchandise in form of toys and games. Also featuring a series of humorous quotes based on the bear’s simple approach to life, who moreover got voted as the greatest philosopher of all time in a public toll. The exhibition is the first of V&As to specifically target the younger families, accordingly welcoming a new generation into the world of Winnie-the-Pooh.

In regards to the grand exhibition, The Pelham hotel is offering the ultimate afternoon tea experience for all Pooh enthusiasts. As one of London’s most iconic hotels, the Pelham is situated in the heart of South Kensington, with only a short walk to the V&A. The hotel brings home comfort and classic design together, creating an environment that one can image, is similar to one in which Milne wrote his stories, making the Pelham a perfect location for a joyful and indulgent experience before the exhibition.

The Afternoon Tea menu is playful, where pasties and cakes are charmingly created with the Winnie-the-Pooh theme in mind, without losing the elegant touch of the hotel. Baking creativity is shown in the Italian meringue topped with a marzipan bee (yuumm!), the crispy passion fruit macaron painted with chocolate stripes and the sweet parfait in the shape of a honey dipper.

Adapted for the younger crowd, the afternoon tea classics are kept simple, serving a variety of finger sandwiches such as cucumber, honey roast ham and cheese, along with an extra crumbly scone. To the grownups delight, the option of a glass of crispy Taittinger can be offered along with a wide range of classic teas.

Likewise, for the younger troop’s excitement, the treats are served on tree lumps and in beautifully weaved baskets, creating the feeling of a summer picnic in the park. As you can imagine, the experience is designed to have an appeal for people of all ages, ensuring both adult and children an unforgettable experience.

What better way to celebrate our favourite foodie bear than to head over to the Pelham for the “Silly Old bear Afternoon Tea”, before continuing to the V&A for a visit to the ambitious exhibition.

The Tea is priced at a reasonable £43, including tickets to The “Winnie The Pooh – Exploring a Classic” Exhibition at The V&A, available from the 12th of December until the 8th of April. It is the perfect family experience if you ask us, because who doesn’t like the idea of a beautiful summer picnic, in the middle of March?!

For an even more immersive experience families can book the “Oh Bear!” package offering a night at either The Gore or The Pelham, a silly old bear afternoon tea and tickets to the exhibition.

The Oh Bear! Package starts at £315 per room per night at The Gore and at £375 per room per night at The Pelham and includes breakfast and VAT.
