As countries around the world gear up to celebrate the royal wedding this Saturday 19th May, Ontario’s iconic Niagara Falls will mark the occasion by turning purple. Of course Toronto is also the city where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle fell in love so there’s never been a better time to visit the province.
In celebration of the upcoming royal wedding, the Niagara Falls Illumination Board will light up Niagara Falls in a royal shade of purple for 30 minutes from 9p.m. to 9:30p.m. on Saturday 19th May, in honour of the wedding of Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle.
The illumination of Niagara Falls in commemoration of a royal visit, wedding or birth has long been part of the history of Niagara. The Falls has recently been illuminated in honour of events such as the Queen’s 90th birthday, as well as to commemorate the births of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and most recently, Prince Louis.
Toronto is a true royal hotspot, and also the chosen destination for Harry’s Invictus Games in 2017. Those planning a trip to North America should certainly consider Meghan’s former hometown of Toronto, with no shortage of iconic backdrops and unique locations to explore.
From Meghan’s favourite restaurants and vintage shops at Trinity Bellwoods Park in the trendy West Queen West neighbourhood, to exploring the historic Distillery District or getting your adrenaline fix at the Edge Walk atop the CN Tower, the city has something for everyone.
