Journey Through Mexico’s Iconic Flavours at Renowned Steak House, Bar + Block

If there’s one cuisine that’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, it’s Mexican. From the bold flavours and fresh ingredients to the tequila-based drinks to wash it down, there’s a reason why this vibrant cuisine is a go-to dinner party theme. What’s more, it’s the perfect cuisine to enjoy during a catch-up with pals or on a friendly first date; what better way of getting to know someone than over a table filled with juicy tacos, guacamole dips, and spicy margaritas? The feel-good food is light enough to keep you dancing into the night, and tasty enough to ensure each plate is clean by the evening’s end. This is exactly why Mexican is our cuisine of choice as we embark into the weekend, plus, we have the perfect restaurant to get your next fix. With locations dotted around London, this summer the renowned steakhouse Bar + Block is turning up the heat with a brand new ‘Inspired By’ Mexican menu.

Filled with dynamic energy and the flavours to match, Bar + Block’s exciting slew of new Mexican-inspired dishes and Tequila Thirsty Thursday menu has arrived across its seven London restaurants and will be available until the 6th of November.

Last week we headed into central London to try it out, and were instantly transported from the heart of King’s Cross to a local hotspot in Mexico City.

The restaurant was transformed with a lively mariachi band, flamboyant tablescapes and mini-cacti to add to the decor. With a raspberry margarita upon arrival and bowls of crunchy corn tortilla chips and chunky guacamole at each table, we knew we were in for a cheerful evening.

After an upbeat performance from the band, it was time to tuck into the brand-new menu. First up were the beer-battered fish goujons drizzled in a spicy mayo, followed swiftly by fully-stuffed tacos.

The first batch were filled with sautéed mushrooms and crumbled white cheese, and the others contained slow-cooked beef marinated in a tangy Mexican seasoning. Other options available on the menu include sweet and smoky chicken breast tacos, coated with a sweet mango, peach and habanero marinade and cooked over charcoal and a side of corn-on-the-cob, sprinkled in white cheese, spicy Mayo and Mexican seasoning. As well as being fully stacked to the brim, every taco is served alongside guacamole, tangy Pico de Gallo, punchy pickled red-onions and Mexican loaded skin-on chips.

Home to all things steak, we were delighted to try Bar + Block’s signature premium beef- which was, of course, juicy, tender, and everything you would expect from a premium steakhouse. Hand-cut to order, from rump to sirloin, every steak is farmed responsibly and matured for 30 days to ensure the best flavour and texture. Plus, all come with crispy, beef-dripping triple cooked chips and a choice of sides.

What’s more, with the new ‘Inspired By’ menu, you can now add a twist to your choice of beef cut with a spicy Mexican steak rub. Should you still have room for more, we strongly recommend finishing on a deliciously sweet note. The Churro Dulce de Leche Sundae is a heavenly concoction of cinnamon laced churros, vanilla ice cream and dulce de leche.

Finally, in true Mexican style, the Bar + Block restaurants are also offering ‘Thirsty Thursdays’, with 2-4-1 handcrafted tequila-based cocktails on offer all day, every Thursday. Created in partnership with El Jimador, you can expect traditional mixology but with modern twists, such as a fiery pineapple chilli cocktail served with a red chilli garnish and salt on the rim. Should you prefer a sweeter option, look no further than the Grapefruit Sherbet or classic Pink Paloma. If you’re in it for a night to remember, the three new shot-tails are a must- Jalisco Sunrise, Mini-Margarita and Some Like it Hot! For the designated drivers, choose between a Nina Colada and a Panoma, two tasty alcohol-free options.

In conclusion, from succulent steak and tasty tacos to dreamy desserts and creative cocktails, this summer Bar + Block have everything covered to bring you on a delicious journey through Mexico’s iconic flavours.
