The Top European Cities for Solo Traveller to Meet Their Match

Forbes has named 2024 as the ‘year of solo travel’ and with Google searches for the term ‘solo travel’ increasing by 40% since 2022, it’s clear that this trend isn’t going away any time soon. 41% of people say they go on solo trips to meet new people, so maybe solo travel doesn’t always mean you have to remain solo? We spoke with the holiday experts Viva Holidays, as they have conducted research to reveal which European city is the best to visit as a solo traveller looking to date.  

Budapest is the best city to date in Europe, followed by Seville and Krakow

When analysing multiple pieces of data, including; cost of a meal, cost of coffee, cost of a pint, population, gender gap between 25-34 year olds and no of 5 restaurants, three cities came out on top.

Budapest, with its stunning architecture and relaxing thermal baths, topped the list of the best European cities to look for love as one of the cheapest places to get a pint (£2.79) or a coffee (£1.84). Seville, with their lively flamenco scene and historic streets, came in second place, and is the cheapest place to get a three course meal for two at just £45.73. Krakow with its rich history and bustling cafes came in third place, being highlighted as one of the safest cities for women.

Best European city to visit with more females than males between the ages of 25-34

If you’re looking to find that special love, Deflt in the Netherlands is where you need to go to have a higher chance of meeting them. Known for its picturesque canals, historic architecture, and vibrant cultural scene, Delft offers an inviting and friendly atmosphere. The city’s youthful energy, combined with numerous social opportunities, makes it an ideal destination for those looking to meet and connect with new people.

Seville is revealed as the cheapest city to go on a date

Are you a cheap date? Well, if you’re looking for the city where you can get the cheapest meal for two, and the cheapest price of a pint, head to Seville. With a three course meal for two costing you just £45.73 and the price of a pint at an astonishing £2.18, you could get fed and watered for under £50 – and that’s paying for your date as well!

If you don’t fancy the Spanish tapas, coming in at second cheapest is Krakow in Poland. You will have to spend just over £50 for your date, with the meal for two coming in at £49.52 and the price of a pint at £3.81.

Safest European city for female solo travellers

In addition to being a great destination for solo travellers, Delft has also emerged as the safest city for female solo travellers. Known for its low crime rates and welcoming community, Delft provides a secure environment for women exploring the city on their own. The city’s well-lit streets, efficient public transportation, and friendly locals contribute to a sense of safety and comfort.

Lisbon follows closely behind, offering its own blend of safety, vibrant culture, and picturesque landscapes, making it another excellent choice for female solo travellers.
