Dubai International Airport, London Heathrow and Tokyo Haneda Airport are the busiest airports to fly to and from

Data from a new study has revealed that the busiest airport to travel to and from is Dubai International Airport, with 87 million passengers flying in and out of the airport yearly.

The research comes from travel experts at Lotus Car Rental, who conducted the study to help Brits find the best holiday destinations for their needs this summer by revealing the most and least overwhelming cities to visit.

The UK capital’s biggest international airport, Heathrow, follows closely in second behind Dubai, with a whopping 79.2 million passengers coming through its terminals each year.

Not far off in third place is Tokyo Haneda, with 78.7 million passengers flying into and out of the airport.

Popular destinations, including Paris and Madrid, also rank in the top 10 most busy airports to fly to and from.

On the other hand, some airports can feel less hectic and overwhelming. The experts at Lotus Car Rental found Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to be the quietest airport, with only 5 million passengers per year.

Vaclav Havel Airport Prague ranked as the second quietest airport, welcoming around 14 million passengers, which is over double the total of the quietest airport.

Alexander Haraldsson, CEO of Lotus Car Rental, said: “The recent summer holidays will have seen young people going on girls’ trips and lads’ holidays. These groups may be more attracted to busier destinations with more populated airports to kick start the excitement for their travels.”

“However, for elderly people, young families or simply those looking for a quiet start to their relaxing holiday may prefer a calmer, less busy airport that will provide them with less of a sensory overload.

“Popular destinations such as Budapest and Warsaw would be great airports to fly to if you’re looking for somewhere quieter and easy to navigate.”
