The Holiday’s Iconic Cottage Was a Movie Set—Now You Can Stay in its Charming Dupe
After watching Hollywood blockbuster The Holiday many of us crave a festive escape just like Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet did in the film. In fact, searches for ‘cottage from the holiday’ have increased +5000% over the past 30 days. Despite the cottage from the film actually being a set, fans now have the chance to stay in a dupe of the cosy chocolate-box cottage.
If you’re more of an Amanda than an Iris, we have teamed up with holidaycottages.co.uk as they are offering a lucky winner the chance to spend a seven-day 2025 festive getaway in a dupe of the famous cottage from The Holiday, where you can hole up in Cotswold countryside bliss.
For the Iris types, the team are offering the chance for a second winner to stay in a stylish Cornwall apartment like the film’s trendy LA property.
The owners of the properties recently documented their apartment swap, recreating iconic scenes from the movie. Reels from the cottage swap can be found here.
Nestled in the picturesque village of Combe Hay, the doorstop of Laundry Cottage makes the perfect setting for encountering a charming Englishman (or welcoming in friends from the cold). Adorned with trailing plants and surrounded by a charming garden and peaceful woodland, Laundry Cottage is a dead ringer for The Holiday’s famous cottage.
Many of us in the UK will be used to the cold winter temperatures, unlike LA-based Amanda in the movie, however, if you wanting to feel extra cosy, the beautiful cast iron bed is perfect for snuggling up with a glass of red wine or a warming cuppa. The roll-top bath is perfect for kicking back after a long day exploring the nearby village, and maybe even taking a trip to the local city of Bath.
The kitchen lends itself to recreating the Mr Napkin Head scene with the kids – or big kids. With a large kitchen table, an electric oven, hob and microwave you have everything you need for a sociable, festive hub, serving up tasty Christmas treats.
Has all of this inspired you to live out your Amanda or Iris fantasy? You’re in luck as holidaycottages.co.uk is offering a pair of lucky winners the chance to spend a seven-night stay in one of the properties at any point in 2025; all you have to do is sign up for the competition. Entries for the competition opened on 1 December 2024 and will close at 11.59pm on 11 December 2024. A winner will then be chosen for each property.
Shannon Keary, Digital PR Manager at holidaycottages.co.uk, said: “The Holiday showcases just how cosy some of the UK’s villages and towns can be over the festive period. ‘The Holiday effect’ has left many people in the UK and overseas craving a welcoming country getaway, just like Amanda. With Jude Law recently going viral for dropping the bombshell that the interior of The Holiday cottage was just a set, we wanted to offer one lucky winner the chance to experience their own experience like the characters in The Holiday – whether an Iris or an Amanda!”
