Trend Alert: Sartorial Sweaters

November 5, 2012

Once relegated to the school yard or nannas, the sweater is having a major fashion comeback this season!

While a basic cashmere knit is a failsafe staple, it’s time to upgrade your winter woolies with retro prints and logos. Take a cue from Kenzo and Balenciaga – the two most ubiquitious sweaters seen on almost every second person during the fashion weeks this Autumn.

 Elena Perminova

Kenzo re-released their iconic embroidered tiger sweatshirt, which rocketed to street style fame after being snapped on Russian fashionista Elena Perminova. Wear it with shredded boyfriend jeans and strappy sandals, or go for the off-duty model look in a waisted skirt and hipster beanie.

Balenciaga’s space sweater is quite literally out of this world – it’s geek-chic on a whole new level. Featuring neoprene sleeves and intergalactic motifs, every fashion editor worth their weight in rose gold accessories has one of these babies hanging in their wardrobes. Miroslava Duma added a girly touch with a Peter Pan collar and tights, while Balenciaga’s Nicolas Ghesquière teamed it with loose-cut trousers or knee-length skirts for its catwalk debut.
